Super Bright Office

My office is super bright since Thursday coz a fire broke out and we lost the curtains to the flames.

It was an electrical fire sparked by an aging electrical wire leading to the air-conditioning unit. As the wire caught fire, the flame raced up to the ceiling like the sparkling fuse of a dynamite. The curtains, which the wire was behind, was set ablaze along the way.

Fortunately, we have fire extinguishers and quick reaction folks within arm's reach and the fire was put out in a matter of minutes.

If you click on the picture to enlarge, you can see the charred pillar where the fire broke out.

Still, it was a good 30 minutes before anyone is able to return to the office as we opened all the windows for the smoke to dissipate.

All in a day's work.

My Spork

Had to make do with instant noodles for breakfast this morning coz I overslept. It was raining like mad through the night (Red Storm Warning hoisted at 4am) and I slept like there's no tomorrow.

Yeah. Ironic, isn't it?

So anyway, that's the spork that I bought in Hong Kong. Not cheap at HKD 25 (I resisted buying the Titanium version at HKD 240) but it is days like these where I get to use it to eat noodles with one end and la kopi with the other.

Anyway, Southwest, despite being a budget airline, is actually one of my favourites. It's all about expectations actually. When you take a Full Service Carrier (FSC) or an Low Cost Carrier (LCC), you have different expectations for them respectively.

So believe me when I say, Tiger Airways sucks monkeyballs. AirAsia is better by a mile even with the landing gear still down.

Yes, Southwest is an LCC and so do not expect all the frills like proper meal service, in-flight entertainment, etc.

What I do like is the efficiency of their operations. Boarding and disembarking is always so fast that you would be fooled into thinking that perhaps the passengers have had a boarding/disembarking dress-rehearsal earlier.

The best part are the crew who are GENUINELY friendly and not plasticky. Even the PA announcement by the Captain is like a comedy talk show at times.

Captain: Good morning folks. Welcome to Southwest Flight 380. This is your Captain, Captain O'Sullivan speaking. Have you guys bought your insurance? I just renewed mine yesterday....

Safety briefing are a joy to watch as you don't have two mimes standing in the aisle acting out the narration as a third attendant monotonously read the script off the manual somewhere behind in a dark recess.

Everything is off-the-cuff and yet every safety information as required by the FAA was not missed.
Now this is really knowing what their stuff.

OK, not that I am gushing about Southwest nor am I able to guarantee every flight is like that. I guess I am lucky to have an enjoyable flight each and every time I fly out of LAS, SJC or ONT.

I hope my luck continues although I am not expected to set foot on US soil anytime soon.

Namecard Fail

I was at the local DVD shop when the owner handed me his card.

I took a brief glance of it and slipped it into my pocket shortly thereafter without much thought but yet there was a naggy feeling about that card that kept clinging onto the back of my mind that one looping song that refuses to get out of your head.

Can you tell what is wrong with the card?

this could be a box of rejected cards because of printing mistakes and instead of going to waste, might as well use it... printer normally make up for it with another set printed correctly

Name Fail

Was watching some Ta1wan foodie channel via satellite dish when this expert food consultant appeared on screen to explain to the chiobu show host some detailed aspects of the dessert that she was about to try.

When his name flashed on the screen, I started bursting out laughing and was quick hands enough to take a snap shot of the screen.

Name fail.

That's my car. Or rather that was my car before I left for QQLand to work.

It was sometime after Chinese New Year when I got an offer to work up North. The package was good and I accepted it after my meeting in Ta1wan.

The only thing was that I need to fly up almost immediately which gave me less than a week to settle all my loose ends in Singapore, one of which is the disposal of my car.

Under such circumstances, when you are pressed for time, the seller usually takes a beating as far as selling price is concerned.

Fortunately for the great guys at CarMatch, this was fortunately not the case. They got my a buyer within 3 days! To make all things transparent, they even arrange a meeting for me the meet the buyer direct.

All I ask for was a fair price and that target was reached immediately.

Thereafter, it was auto-pilot from there as Team Leader Leon took care of everything for me in order for me to fly off with peace of mind.

Due to the special circumstances of my car (too bladdy new), there was a snag with LTA which had to delay the transfer of my car back by a month. By then I was already in QQLand and pretty much helpless to do much to assist in resolving the unforeseen problem.

Again, it was Leon to the rescue as he handled everything swee swee for all parties. We kept in touch via email with all parties looped in. Even the buyer was full of praises in his email.

Anyway, the transfer of the vehicle was finally completed end of last month and all monies were settled without any complications.

So here I say a big thank you to everyone at CarMatch.

Bad Habit

Asok 1 shares an apartment with some of us more senior guys. We have a couple, Sam & Stacy, taking the master bedroom, I take the second room and Asok 1, being the most junior among us, takes the guest room which is the Japanese-sliding-door-mattress-on-floor style as with most Ta1wanese homes format.

So the background story is that Asok 1 likes one of the store managers who happen to stay in the opposite apartment from us.

We smell a rat as Asok 1 would always leave the apartment in the middle of the night to god-knows-where and return at the most unearthly hour.

So come Sunday where we aren't working, he would still be sound asleep when we wake up pretty late in the morning.

As we suspect hanky panky going on between the two of them and we reckoned, one of these days, these two would end up in bed. So far they seem to be covering their tracks pretty well.

So what happened last Sunday, Stacy decided to quietly slide open the door a little bit to take a peek (Japanese sliding doors has got no lock) to see if she can catch the girl in there. Haha.

The following conversation ensued:

Sam (Stacy's husband catching her peeping red handed): 原来你也有这个坏习惯!

JayWalk (unaware of what's going on as I just woke up and got out of the room) : 什么坏习惯?

Sam: 偷看有没有机会抓奸在床啰!

JayWalk: 哦. 是那种坏习惯呀. 我还以为是七早八早叫马子先走的坏习惯. 哈哈哈! *
