My Blog From The "Other Side"

I was reading Asian Blog Review and I don't know what came over me when I sent in an email asking for an appraisal. Perhaps it was my overpowering curiosity to find out how my blog looked "from the other side", or perhaps it's just the masochistic streak in me asking for a slap in the face, should the review turned out less than flattering? I very fragile one you know?

Yah lah, you'd probably hear, for about a gazillion times, from people that we should just blog for ourselves and not bother what others think, even if yOu tHinK tyPinG iN aLtErNatE caPs is uBer cOOlesT tO the mAXX. <-- Kaoz... that sentence alone took me over a minute to type! NB!

But... but,

I curious mah!! Can??

Then I started to think about how the review would turn out.

Will I be penalised for my overly simplistic layout and colour scheme? (Trivia: WonkyTong picked the orange for me. I loved it! I mean have you seen another blog with orange in it?)

What about my Engrish for I is not berry goot? My sperring can be quite atrocious some times. Acherly hor, I can easily "code switch" between proper Engrish or English or even Bahasa Cina lah. See my mood how lah.

I is so schizophrenic. 

Eh. Then if I say bad words on my blog and voice blog, will minus mark or not one har?

What about all the photos and pictures? Some of them my own while others I kapok from outside by shamelessly linking it direct. So far nobody complain. Heng ah.

I always make it a point to have a photo/illustration on each entry, does that mean it would take too long to load? I think I will earn the wrath of the reviewer if the person suay suay uses a 300-baud modem. Then I really hong kan liao. I shall keep my fingers crossed.

Coming back...

By now some of you would want to tell me to ease up on the throttle with this obsession but if you recall from my Blogger's Matrix, I allocated 25% to Bean Counting. For those of you who have no idea what I am talking about at this point, may I suggest you read here and then here.

I don't deny that part of me writes for an audience. An audience from which I have made quite a number of friends over time. The audience is like my Pet Plant where I talk and nurture every day. My blog entries collectively, is the proverbial fertilizer (crap!) that grows and aids the blossoming of the plant.

From a young little seedling of yore to the present-day leafy tree boasting a total of 498 blog entries in Blog-City.com. In time I shall mark another milestone when I hit the big 500. Stay tuned.

The audience is my friend, be they lurkers or active participants. I welcome one and all to my humble abode. Perhaps it is the desire in me to want to play the perfect host that I would make an effort to accommodate everybody and making it as cosy as possible. Hence, my interest to want to find out what the outside have to say about this blog.

So while I wait for Asian Blog Review to come back to me, if at all, I wonder what do the rest of you good people have to say?

Oh, for once, I'm the first here! Hahahaha.. In my humble, innocent and young girl's opinion, your blog rocks my socks. Just that your US entries get a tad boring at times. (Think 'cause I didnt know what you were talking about)
I get what you mean by blogging for an audience. I have no idea when will I hit the 500 mark man. I have only about 200 so far.
Anyhow, your blog's easy to read, understand and get *ahem* involved *ahem* in. Ay, why you wanna know how it's judged by others when your audience love it? If your audience don't like it, then they won't come back for more le wad..

Well, believe it or not, they are black plastic bags for commuters who gets the motion sickness. Every bus here have them.

Apparently the folks here are not used to traveling especially so if they just arrived from the rural villages (in search of work).

With tractors and carts back home, these buses are like speedster demons to them and man... do they get really sick!

It's a really headache for me every time I need to ferry my maid to/from the factory. She would have to have a plastic bag on standby in the car.

If the car ride is 30 minutes, we would have to allocate an hour for her. 30 minutes to get there, 30 minutes for her to get up.

Honda Civic Esi vs Nissan 200SX

Pam's comment from my earlier blog got me thinking back to that fateful day in 1994 when I was in NTU. It was a memorable year for me. A year where I got booted out of the hostel and barred from future application despite having 500+ ECA points.

As bad as it sounds, it was a blessing in disguise as I realised with my folks away overseas, the condo and car was all mine. Ahh yes, the bachelor's perfect accessories. A house key and a car key.

So there I was that morning where I woke up at 10am (Don't ask me what I did the night before coz I'm not telling! ) and I had a very important-die-die-cannot-miss lecture at 10:30 am, Lecture Theatre 19 in the North Spine.

By the time, I washed up, got dressed and out the door, the watch said 10:10 am.

I was driving a modest Honda Civic Esi at that time as I sped down Ulu Pandan, Clementi and then up PIE via Clementi Avenue 6 that would even put Initial D to shame. However, due to the traffic lights and local traffic leading up the highway, it was 10:20 am when I eventually get onto the highway.

I was at the entrance on the highway and I saw the gap in the innermost lane. I went for it in the smoothest of transition over 3 lanes in a single swoop.

But then hor...

The Nissan 200SX that I ended up in front of wasn't too happy about it and decided to tail-gate me aggressively.

I was thinking, "OK lor. If you not happy, I give the lane back to you lor." and I shifted back to the middle lane for him to pass.

But no....

As I shifted to the middle lane, the Nissan followed suit and continued to tail-gate me aggressively in the middle lane. Figuring that he was just being pissed at me and had no intention to overtake, I speeded up back to the overtaking lane as I tried to make up for lost time. I am going to be late already...

I went back to the innermost lane. Tail-gater again followed suit.

"Damn. What do I have to do to shake him off?"

I move up to 130 km/h. We were still bumper to bumper.

140 km/h? Nope. Still there gnashing at my tail.

Around this time, I could see all the cars in the innermost lane ahead all siam to the middle lane to make way for us.

150 km/h. Still there. Eyes focus ahead toward the road shoulder on the left, looking out for a parked white car in orange stripes.

By now, I passed Corporation Road already and begin to wonder when this guy is ever going to get off the highway? Bearing in mind that during that time, Jalan Bahar is one of the last exits already, surely, he should be getting off earlier?

170 km/h. I am beginning to pull away albeit slightly.

Finally shook him off as my needle breached the 180 km/h mark. Heng ah, no TP in sight.

As I pulled into the car park, my grip on the steering wheel took a while to release. While I wasn't sweating, I was panting like mad, as a result of adrenaline overdose.

The watch says 10:32 am. Technically I was late but given that the Lecturer takes about 5 to 10 minutes to settle down and start the lecture proper, I was still considered on time.

I grabbed my files and headed for the LT where the Nissan 200SX pull up alongside.

My adrenaline relaunched itself into overdrive as I get ready to fight this guy. If this bladdy joker was so adamant in chasing me down, Lim Peh show hand liao. Bring it on!

"Eh? Jinx? WTF?? That was you in the Nissan?? You Mother-F*cker!!! You almost gave me a heart attack!! KNNBCCB!!!!! #$%$#^&*&^*&#@!!@@!!!!"

In return, all I got was the silliest prankster-grin that you can imagine.

Here's the thing. Jinx was my classmate and lived very near me. He too was late for class. I didn't know that he had a second car which explained why I didn't recognise him on the road earlier, without his Volvo 940.

Cheeky Bastard!

Oh yes, one more thing. We both made it for class that day.

SB: Well, yes and no. A nice set of wheels is certainly a big plus. When I was getting the car, it was a toss-up between a 1-yr-old Toyota Corolla, a 1-yr-old Honda Civic Esi and a 5-yr-old BMW 520i. I picked the Honda based on performance during the test drive sessions. It was really a good and responsive car.

On hindsight, I should have gotten the Beemer, had I known what a babe magnet it was going to be. Dang!

it was Jinx?!?! :) how's he anyway? my fastest driving speed is.. oh... 110mph? (what's that in kmh? 140-150?)... given that the speed limit on the motorway's 70, i was chancing it. but not anymore. can't risk the damn points (the police are out to get us! - put more cameras and thingies all over the damn place).

seriously tho, i think they should do like the german autobahn system. it's great. was in a porsche once on the autobahn, it was going ridiculously fast and i was freaking out. better than a rollercoaster ride!!

Autobahn is like wow! You can drive like 250 km/h and still keep to the middle lane coz somebody WILL be overtaking you.

I remembered heading up to Genting on the NS Highway. We were driving at 200 km/h and this motorbike not only overtook us but overtook us convincingly!!

Still, I think we shouldn't have the Autobahn here coz our drivers are not mature enough to use it correctly and safely yet.

of course, not advocating that the autobahn system be implemented in sg - i meant over here. i'm convinced if the speed limit went up at least by another 10 or 20mph, it'll be better all round. the autobahn is great. really. and funny is, when we're in a car travelling at their speed, you don't really feel like you're 'speeding'... of course, the porsche is different. :)

Bladdy Blackout II

After my little mis-adventure with my Alarm Clock Radio yesterday....

I think this Sony brand of Clock Radio is damn good coz it is still in prime condition despite the fact that I rained my Sleepy Piak of Death on the "Snooze Button" dozens of times each morning.

5 years on and it still doesn't look a day older.

Good clock, I tell you.

The only bladdy downside to it is that despite having a Back-Up 9V battery inside, the time gets screwed whenever power goes out. The only thing the battery does is prevent the clock from reverting to the flashing "0:00" when power comes back.

I woke up this morning at "8:53 am". My mobile phone clock says "7:13 am".

Haiz.... must adjust the clock liao. I am waking up even ahead of Japan.... Nah hiah....

Bladdy Blackout I

"Beep Beep! Beep Beep! Beep Beep!..."

Wah raoz, I just fall asleep niah only to kena the shrills of my 2 UPS (Uninterruptable Power Supply) units as they cried in unison in the dead of the night. I sneaked a peek at my alarm clock and it says "2:30 am".  Nah beh..... gio lim peh kee lai pang jio....

Haiz... Bladdy blackout in the middle of the night as I scrambled to do a proper shut down of my 2 servers before the UPS-es goes dead as well.

Back to slumberland I plonked after that was done.

"Beep Beep! Beep Beep! Beep Beep!...."
Ahh... this time round, I recognised the beeping as that of my alarm clock as I instinctively whacked the snooze button for an extra 7 minutes of blissful slumber. I dunno hantam-ed the snooze button for how many times (while still sleeping) before I gum guan open one eye to sneak a peak at the time.

"8:13 am"

HONG KAN!!! Overslept! Koon gueh tao liao!! as I scrambled out of my bed once again. However, just as I was rushing to the bathroom, I noticed that the clock on my mobile phones say 7:03 am.... Bladdy blackout screwed up the time on my alarm clock.

Nah beh.... make me kan cheong for nothing.....

This reminds me of my sec sch days. Cos my sch in pasir ris, i stay in hougang. dad drives me to sch every morng, then go back home pick up my mum, drives her to work. so i damn stress one. cannot be late. if i late, everybody late!

sometimes i suddenly wake up, look at the clock, i'll see 655am instead of 555am. hahaa.. then kan cheong faster chiong to bathroom wash up, or worse! i'll go wake my parents up saying that i m fucking late! then mum will kan cheong wake up, look at the clock and then tell me, its only 555am.
