Fizzle In The Drizzle Series (Part 4) - The Law Student with the 320SL

Maddie was a law student when I was an undergrad cum part-time roadie for an events company, that was engaged by her faculty for an evening ball function. She was on the organising committee and hence we have quite a bit of contact in the preparation leading up to the ball itself. The thing about these events is that when you are the event's coordinator, your chances of being inside and enjoying the party is shot. You don't have a chance to sit down. You are essentially the sacrificial workhorse as you find yourself working and coordinating from beginning to end. Ironically, even when there is a seat reserved specially for you, the seat would be empty throughout the night.

Being a roadie means that I am busying only during setting up and closing shop times. Everything in between is left to the big kahunas (e.g. Hamish Brown, Florence Lian, Moe Alkaff, Gurmit Singh, Victor Khoo, Bernard Lim etc..) to execute the programme and its just idle time for me to sit back and watch the events unfold, less of course, there is a technical emergency that requires me to rectify before anyone realises something was amiss.

So there she was, stealing a breather behind the stage bumming a drink from my glass. Her calves were sore from wearing heels the whole day. I offered for her to prop her feet onto my lap and I gave her a once-thru. Let's just say that I had magic fingers.

She kinda figured out where and how to locate me subsequently (read my 3-Day Week section in my previous entry) and we saw more and more of each other despite the fact we didn't have each other's numbers until much later. Before anyone starts exclaiming "STALKER!", let's just say that there was always a smile on my face when she showed up. I liked her.

So it wasn't before long after that we hooked up and we got to know each other and each other's background deeper. For those who know me, I come from a pretty comfortable background and this bit of information is crucial at this point in time when I say she was way out of my league. At first, I tried to ignore the gap in between our backgrounds but the cracks at the hull was slowly showing under the strain.

I remembered when I was an intern in a bank later that year. She rang me on my mobile one morning and said she was taking me out to lunch. So at the appointed time, I went downstairs to the lobby and my jaw dropped. There she was in her dad's 320SL in full glory, parked right in front of the bank. Now the shittybank of which I was an intern had a viciously horrible gossip grapevine that passes information faster that the speed of electrons and the last thing I needed was to be the latest topic of discussion.

"What da heow?!!" As I ran for the car almost diving in through the window, trying to avoid being identified. After lunch, I had to make some lame excuse about needing to buy some stuff from the Old Lau Pa Sat and hence needed her to drop me a distance away from the bank. You would have guessed that I only wanted her to drop me off far enough so that nobody saw me. Now many would be saying that I shouldn't let this sort of thing get to me but alas, I was young and stupid then. We all have 20-20 hindsight vision, don't we?

Anyway, even if I didn't let that get to my head, it wouldn't have lasted anyway. We were just too far apart in terms of backgrounds and interests. We don't have enough common ground except perhaps that we both love to party and my house was always a hurricane wreck every morning after.

I've heard this story before, haven't I?

Ahhh... the difference between guys and girls... girls WANT their boyfriends to pick them up and drive them around in SLKs.

BTW I've a new post up on Red Half of Manchester, on last night's Carling Cup match vs West Brom. Why am I like the only one updating it? I've got to get to Lun and make him contribute...

Why? You also want massage is it?

小姐要不要 SPECIAL ? Wahahahaha.....

Sheena: Told you the story? Maybe, maybe not.
Read the update on RedHalf. I didn't cover the Carling Cup coz Mickey Mouse Cup lah... I do only EPL and ECL (and if I good mood then FA Cup also lah).

Lynne: Wouldn't you WANT to know? *raised eyebrow*

Pam: Well said. If you need to ask, you probably should stay ignorant about it. Heh heh...

Jaschocolate: I won't say that money is not important and having some is a good bonus. However, there are other things that are just as important if not, more.

Alimony would have been a nightmare for me as it is always the char bor who would be at the receiving end. Given that she was rich to begin with, my alimony would have been a huge number since I have to maintain her current standard of living.
