I was at a customer's showroom when he gave me this bottle of reddish liquid.
"Moonshine." He whispered and my eyes lit up immediately.
We were talking about me traveling to the US and I told him that I have this "When In Rome" mindset when I travel. It opens your mind and it is always exciting to be able to learn and/or experience something new.
You won't find me to be the type to be looking for Ch1nese restaurants when overseas. I mean, come on! Where else can you get the most authentic Ch1nese food than Ch1na itself? So why bother about Ch1nese food when in the US? Come on! Give me the taste of American. Give me Country Fried Steak, Babyback Ribs and Beer Battered Catfish!
Anyway, six months ago, we were on the topic on food and drinks when I mentioned about the infamous Moonshine. Moonshine is a home-distilled spirit made from corn and sugar. It is illegal but it is hard for the authorities to enforce the ban. Six months later, I have 2 bottles of moonshine in my hands. Yum seng!
Don't see the bottle no up. The liquid inside is 80% alcohol! Original recipe moonshine is supposed to be colourless but these days, it is trendy to flavour it with fruits. If you look closely, you can see raspberries in the bottle.

I took a swig of it and man, it was pretty rough (cannot beat Martell Cordon Bleu lah!). However, it was very tasty and the follow-thru was pretty good that it kind of made up for the rough entry. Perhaps it was the effect of the alcohol but each subsequent swig seemed to get easier and easier to down.
My customer then joked that I should move on to learn about NASCAR so that I may become the Yellowest Redneck ever. LOL.
So with that, I can cross drinking Moonshine from the list of things I want to learn/appreciate/experience in my lifetime.
Absinthe is next on the list.
