5 Weird Things (Part 1) - I Can See In The Dark

Got tagged by Nadnut to do this "5 Weird Things" meme. I like doing memes as it give you an opportunity to share a part of your story that you wouldn't have thought about blogging in the first place.

So, without further ado, Part 1 of the 5 Weird Things.

Enjoy.

My eyes are particularly sensitive to light and glare. Some of my friends thought I was just being hiao when I drove with my shades on on a rainy afternoon. -_-"

Friend: Oy! Si beh hiao leh... Raining still wear sunglasses?

Fact of the matter is that I can see more clearly, filtering out the glare and given that it was raining, all the more important to drive safely mah.

You know sometimes, when you are out at lunch at some restaurant with a "beautiful view"? Most folks would like to sit facing the window to take in the sights. Me? I would choose to sit with my back against the window so that I don't have to face the bright light. My friends love to go out to lunch with me. I wonder why.....

Well, the big revelation happened during the end of my JC1 when I signed up for the Outward Bound School. One of the events was "Nightwalk" where you have to walk into the forest without any lighting aid and to come out from the other end within a specific time limit.

It would have been easier if we had a full moon or something but that particular night was a tad tricky for most as sky was heavily overcast. It was very very dark. Still I was able to see quite clearly although visibility was somewhat hampered by the darker than usual nights.

Then when I ended up in Tekong for my BMT, I remembered coming back from the rifle range only to be welcomed back by a very pitch dark camp. A fire broke out earlier in the cookhouse and the whole camp's electricity was shot. Again I was able to move around with ease, like there wasn't any inconvenience at all. As a result, I was able to do things much quicker than the rest like cleaning and sending my rifle back to the armoury (too dark for the armourer to inspect if I cleaned the rifle properly or not. heh heh). Washed up and was in bed way way earlier then the rest of the platoon. Zzzzzzz.....

Speaking of the OBS Nightwalk, something funny happened along the way while I was inside the forest. We were supposed to walk in the forest alone and so we each had to wait 5 minutes for the guy in front of us to get in before our turn. The special rule is that if you kena caught up by the guy behind you, you would have to do additional duty the next day.

So there I was, walking into the forest at a rather quick pace and I saw a green light in front of me. I was thinking in my head that the bladdy idiot in front was cheating by smuggling a Cyalume stick to help him see in the dark. Seeing the light, I ran towards it, thinking that if I catch up with him, he will have to do extra duty the next day. Cheater Bug!

BAM!

I ran straight into a wall of shrub and hundreds of green lights blinked right before my very eyes!

Fireflies!

Man, it was such a beautiful sight!

As I regained my composure, I realised that in the midst of my excitement trying to catch the "Cheater Bug", I veered off the path and was completely lost. Thank goodness for my "night vision" I was able to relocate the path and got out of the forest before the guy behind me.

No extra duty. Heng ah.....

Anna: I supposed you all stayed on the path right? I guess with all human traffic passing through, the fireflies will be elsewhere.
Remember, I veered off course by accident before I got to see them.
