Fizzle In The Drizzle Series (Part 5) - The Pageant Queen With The 25-Cent Face

1995 was the year I was with Rita but only briefly. I remembered the year clearly as it was the same year my grandpa passed away. She was a faculty pageant queen which means that she was quite the chiobu and a trophy girlfriend of sorts. It was easy getting to know her as we were in the same faculty, while at the same time had quite a few common tutorial classes together. I see her almost everyday as we also shared some assignments and projects together.

While I keep telling myself never to shit and eat in the same place, the caution of the cardinal rule was once again thrown to the winds (!). She was a very sweet and simple girl and we had a great time spending the school holidays together. The problem began to surface when school restarted and we started to prepare for the exams. We saw very little of each other as I spent quite a bit of time away in Taiwan when my grandpa was admitted into ICU and the outlook wasn't exactly very optimistic.

I was there for a couple of weeks before I returned to Singapore when my grandpa was showing signs of improvement. I couldn't spend a lot of time with her when I returned as I had a lot of school work to catch up.

Then just when I thought things were going back to normal, I received another call informing me that grandpa passed away. He was 93. That was really bad timing for me as I was very very close to the exams. Still, saying my farewell to grandpa was above everything else as I boarded the plane once again with my books and notes to Taiwan for the funeral.

Again, when I returned, I had even more backlog of lectures, tutorials, assignments as well as preparation for the exams to clear. I hardly had any time left for her.

As a result, she got upset and the amount of time (or rather the lack of) we spent together in school was being misinterpreted that I was trying to hide our relationship from the public eye. She wanted to tell the whole world about us but unfortunately I wasn't there to follow the script of things. She took it very negatively.

Then that's when the 25-cent face come liao. Face black black that made even the darkest piece of charcoal looked white. Unlike, the Fern, she was the silent sulker when she was unhappy. Right there and then, I knew the relationship was doomed.

In a way, I knew it was my fault that she was was being neglected and so I tried as best as I could, to endure all crap attitude thrown at me. Alas, a man's got his limits and I "resigned" when I reached breaching point.

Raz: The Series concept is like a theme for the week where I spread the stories out over a few days.

Essentially, it's just me recollecting my past and putting down in words in case I forget them when I become old. Feel free to browse through my Lorbert, School Boy and Tuition series. Just key in those keyword into the Search engine, located on the right side bar and it will pull up the respective archives. Enjoy.

As for photos of girlfriends? Cannot lah... too many. Sekali wife upset, how? :P

kIm: Don't say girls lah, guys also don't like to be neglected but like you said, have to be understanding mah. Sometimes we have our hands tied and really bor pian.

So under that circumstances and girlfriend still give you the crap attitude, how not to feel damn du-lan?

Vanna: True lah. Nobody likes to be neglected but under those circumstances, must cut the guy some slack right?

If not happy can talk about it right? No need to give 25-cent face right?
