Vegas - First Day

Greetings from Las Vegas. I finally made it after surviving 2 flight cancellations. 24 hours of travelling in total if I don't count the layover on Hong Kong the night before.

Let's see... It started at 4:30pm on a Sunday afternoon. Took the bus to head down to Hong Kong. It was a Sunday and with no long weekend holiday on the radar screen, passing through immigration was a breeze except for the HK immigration who were slow as usual. It makes me wonder if those immigration officers were literate in English for each passport handed to them seemed to draw up that expression of grimace like when you knew you were going to score a big fat zero for that F-Maths test.

In order to get from Ch1na to HK, I need to pass through immigrations twice. First is the Ch1na immigration to get out of the Ch1na. Time taken from start of queue to back onto the bus, 10 minutes.

Next was the HK immigration to get into the HK. Time take from start of queue to back onto the bus, 55 minutes. Sigh...

I was always under the impression that HK is more advanced in term of technology and stuff but somehow, the HK immigration is super screwed up for their ineffectiveness and inefficiency. "Global City Jockeying For A More Competitive Regional Advantage" my big fat Tim Sum ass. Until the day, HK gets it's civil service up properly, it is destined to be gobbled up by Ch1na and spitted out. Good luck guys. You're so going to need it.

Finally reached my hotel the MGM Grand at about 6pm (PST) in the evening but it wasn't after a big hoo-hah on the airport shuttle bus where some bapok's purple luggage fell off the bus and got lost somewhere along the streets because the careless driver didn't close the back of the bus properly. Oh groan. All that was quickly forgotten as soon as I stepped into the lobby. Oh wow. It was such a fabulous place and I asked myself what the fuck am I doing there working? Shouldn't it be a vacation instead? NB.

Oh the temptation of the casinos and the shows that is just calling out your name. Chris Isaak, David Copperfield, Penn & Teller, Jerry Seinfeld, Cirque de Soleil, Siegfried & Roy, Celine Dion, just to name a few.

Hopefully, can get my work completed ahead of schedule and then and only then, perhaps there is a sliver of chance to catch David Copperfield? (ei|een: Want anything? Better start being nice to me. You are such a Copperfield groupie. Hiak Hiak Hiak!)

Took a few photos from outside my window and as you can see, all the hotels along The Strip all damn nice. Price is quite good also. MGM Grand is USD 159 per night. This compared to the USD 170 Four Seasons at Bird-No-Lay-Egg city of Greensboro, North Carolina.
The ExcaliburMandalay

It's a fabulous place but kan si lang expensive. Dinner was absolute lip-smacking too but oh at what price tag?!

First night, we went to SeaBlue, a seafood restaurant. We had a Senegal Pink Dorade and a Florida Black Grouper. With 2 beers and tips, the bill came up to USD 150. Makes you SOOOO want to hit the casino to try to make the money back. Sigh.

Last night was a dinner at this Italian trattoria called Fiamma. Party of 4 and we shared a calamari and capparccio for anti-pasti and we had Maine Lobster Gnnochi and Short Ribs Ravioli for our main course. We also shared a Kobe Beef Steak as well. Oh heaven!

I was most impressed with the service. Ling who was feeling cold from the aircon (Hiao lah... wear so little. Cold hor?), asked for a hot chocolate. The waiter was quite taken aback by the odd request but nevertheless went back to come up with the request. The hot chocolate came and Ling said that it tasted exceptionally good. The waiter explained that there didn't have hot chocolate on the menu but gotten the Pastry Chef to melt the pastry chocolate to make the hot and yummy beverage. Kan Si Lang Impressed, I am.

I wondered if the good service came from the restaurant's high standard of service or was it that he had been staring down her dress all evening. Hmm... I wonder.

Also, the little Tabasco bottle was so cute that I grab a few bottles to bring back as souvenir.

Great meal as I shared a Tiramisu with Ling and finished it off with a white Sambuca. Ahh... the perfect finish to an excellent meal.

Price? USD 300 for 4. I am SOOOO going to the casino!!! Must make back the money!!!.... hhahahah... but too bad, no chance leh..... another day of work ahead of me. sigh.....

Jay - 2 things you must do while you're there.
1. Watch Blueman Group @ Luxor 2. Whack the 1 pound lobster tail @ Smollensky's steak house. I think it's US$80. Damn good and good value for $$.

Been there a couple of times. Had a lot of fun each time staying @ different hotels.
Be safe and win some $$.

MeePok: Yes Yes! The 3 blue men that we see on Intel ads. It's definitely a toss up between that and David Copperfield.

David Copperfield because it's in the hotel where I am staying and I don't have to wait 30 minutes in line for a cab to get back from Luxor after the show.

But then again, I think we have seen Copperfield to death already. So Blue Men Group is quite appealing too. I only scared my dad, who is traveling with me, kuar bor.
How?
