Demise Of The DeathStar (For Now...)

I am putting the Part 5 of the School Boy Series on hold to insert this blog.

Just found out from ZheBin this morning that Bandung Vader's blog was hacked and everything in it got wiped out. That to me is nothing less than Blog Terrorism which I absolutely denounce.

For the record, I was not the perpetrator. I may have said something about shutting down her blog in my earlier entry but it was under a totally different context. Besides, my programming skill machiam half-past-six only. How to hack? Give me a dummy's guide to hacking, I would still fail miserably.

As much as I have a distaste for the stuff that she writes, it doesn't give me any right to say that she should stop what she is currently doing. It's her own blog and she can do what she wants with it. If you have an issue with it, keep it within your own confines. I mean, do you break into somebody house to rearrange her furniture just because you disagree with her taste in interior decor? If you disagree, you rearrange your own furniture in your own home. No?

Hacking and wiping out somebody else's blog is totally uncalled for, not matter how cheesed off you are with the person in question. Some of you may not sympathise with her (some may even be rubbing hands with glee), calling it retribution, calling it karma.

The stupid thing is that by playing the vigilante and destroying someone else's blog in the name of "justice", this perpetrator isn't doing any better. If Bandung Vader hits below the belt, then this idiot hacker hits even lower than that.

This is beginning to sound like a game of tit-for-tat and its never-ending cycle. The old saying goes, "To forgive is divine." Let us not forget that.

I have a new Dumbass Of The Week II. He/She goes under the moniker of "ISupportXiaXue".

"... I wish the hacker will be forever in hell and his whole family members get banged by cars, his children get raped, his loved ones get killed by rapists and his house get robbed..." - ISupportXiaXue (21 Jul 2005)

This is the work of the hacker himself. Why wish for his family to get "banged by cars"? His children "raped"? His loved ones "get killed by rapists"?

WHAT THE FUCK HAS IT GOT TO DO WITH THE REST OF THE HACKER'S FAMILY???!??

Maybe, it's because of the fact that I have children of my own that I just get really riled up when I see "rape" and "children" in the same sentence.

For a moment I so wanted to wish the same things to happen to this idiot and his/her children, his/her loved ones, thinking that it would be sweet poetic justice. Think again as that would mean me getting sucked into this big vortex of vindictive hate. Nice try, Dumb Ass II.

On the other hand, I have a suspicious fear that this fiasco may be staged by Bandung Vader herself in a desperate bid to gain public sympathy (let us not forget publicity, lotsa it!) and to improve her currently tattered PR.

However, I would like to go on record, that I have my doubts on the latter. As such, I would give her the benefit of the doubt. I believe that she was a genuine victim in this attack. What do the rest of you think?

Here's another question to all.

1) Don't you guys backup your blogs? I do mine on a monthly basis.

2) As each blog that you write accumulates, it would after some time, add up to quite a sizeable chunk of personal memories and comments. What do you intend to do with all the blogs that you have written at the end of the day? For me, I am going to compile it into a book to pass it on to my grandkids and their kids. Something like a Memoir to mark my legacy.

Anyway, let hope, with the help of the Blogger.com/Blogspot.com and the relevant ISPs that this perpetrator be caught and brought to proper justice.

Question: Are there laws to prosecute these perpetrators when they are caught?

AFTERNOTE:

I was in the middle of a golf tournament when Hitomi yahoo-ed me on my mobile telling me that WonkyTong also kena hacked. While I am not really bothered with Bandung Vader's, I am especially worried about the latter for I am afraid that the setback may to be too overwhelming for her that we may lose her forever.

WonkyTong, we are all behind you on this one. I am sure everybody would be willing to chip in to help out with the rebuilding. Just say the word although I am not really sure how we can help.

WT got part of her archives (till June) back online already. My blogline feed actually has the hacker's post on it but she has already deleted it. That hacker, how can he sleep at night huh doing what he does? Anyways, Jay, change your pw lah... let this be a vigilance lesson for us all...

Well, i feel that no matter how bitchy and politically incorrect she can be, I don't believe she will go and fake a hack to gain sympathy and attention. She may be getting less traffic, but I doubt anyone would be desperate to that extend right?

Jay, you can really read my mind huh? Yes, it's a setback indeed, and I feel tired to re-build or continue writing. Thanks for the encouragement. Appreciate it.

actually, I didn't think what I would do with the posts I had written. Given what had happened above, I would definitely do backup, and perhaps, transfer old files somewhere for printing.

Vandice: Found out from WonkyTong that it wasn't the same hacker that did Bandung Vader.

She didn't lose anything fortunately coz the other supposed hacker just moved her blog post around.

Just like what I said about going to people's home and rearranging the furniture.

AngryLittleGirl: I also don't think that it was a ploy to get public sympathy. I was just being very frank with my thoughts here that the idea crossed my mind. Perhaps, it was a bad move to reveal that thought?

It kinda put me in a bad light. No?

Anna: We have been chatting with each other for so long already. The rapport between us is more or less there already. :)

pinafore: I believe that there is such a 3rd party software that allows you to extract and keep your blog entries offline and offsite.

Will keep you guys posted here.

Wah ... this one quite serious. I guess it's the price to pay for fame? By the way, how to back up the blog? While mine's not something substantial, I'd like to keep it to show my grandchildren someday. Yes, to tell stories of Ah Gong and his dysfunctional youth (and life); and his haywire friends (like Jay and Dicta).

MeePok: I don't know about Blogger, Blogspot or Blogdrive.
But my Blog-City has this button that you select the month you want to backup, choose format (xml or csv) the click backup. It will send a copy of that month's blog to your email.

AngryLittleGirl*: Awww. thanks for the vote of confidence. Here's adding a star to your name. :)

Ah 9: I think in a way, I am similar to WonkyTong. If I ever kena a similar setback like her, I may never come back again. The climb from the bottom may be too much for me to repeat, which is why I am very diligent with my backups.

Actually, it goes for all my other data especially work stuff which I backup fortnightly.

Akk: She has gone off for a break as well as to commit more time to her summer projects. I supposed she will be back say around late September, early October?

Probably under another blog, given that her cover in the office has been blown wide apart.
