School Boy Series (Part 4) - Tony the Sultan Gabra

Tony was also my Indonesian classmate in Sec 3 and 4. A quiet and reserved guy who is always polite and well-liked by everybody in class. Even though he is not an active participant in our class activities, we always made it a point to save a space for him.

Tony, like me, is a fellow paper hat and can opener gladiator. However, looking at our results more closely, I think he was slightly better. He got the butter knife.

One more thing about him is that this guy is si beh blur one. So sotong until the extend that we conferred him the title Sultan Gabra.

One time during Literature lesson...

Ms Cheah: So Tony, what do you think this stanza is trying to tell about the author's life as a father and a husband?

Tony: Well... *Pausing to gather his thoughts"

5 minutes must have passed as he stood there pondering while we were still waiting for him to utter the next word...

Ms Cheah: Well?

Tony: Wait. I am still thinking.

Ms Cheah: Oh right. Take your time then.

Another 3 minutes later...

Tony: Madam.

Ms Cheah: Yes, Tony?

Tony: What was the question?

Ms Cheah: -------- -_-" -------- ~8

Anyone remembered the useless English textbook "InterLink"? What a waste of money! Anyway, there was this a particular time during English lesson where out of the blue moon, we actually needed to use the textbook. There was a particular passage in the book that we had to read and then later discuss. Towards the end of the lesson, Tony suddenly stood up and walked towards class cupboard and started rummaging.

Mrs Lee: Tony, what are you doing? Get back to your seat. We are in the middle of a discussion!

Tony: I am looking for my "InterLink".

Mrs Lee: -------- -_-" -------- ~8

We stayed in touch via ICQ from time to time and I found out that his blurness ran in the family. There was this time I was on ICQ with him for almost an hour...

Tony: By the way, who is this?

Me: What do you mean "who is this?" We have been chatting in ICQ for almost an hour!

Tony: Sorry but I need to know. I am Tony's father. I am using his computer.

Me: -------- -_-" -------- ~8

Well Tony, wherever you are now. Take care buddy.

Vandice: Sure we pengz lotsa times. Sure we get crows/dragon flies flying across the back of our heads.

Somehow, we always forgive him and just accept him as he is. When a fella is a good guy, it's hard to get angry with him lah.

AngryLittleGirl: Actually I got the idea of this analogy (Read Here) from the movie "Curry & Pepper" (1990) starring Jacky Cheung and Stephen Chow.

Jacky and Stephen were these two triad gangster wannabes and there was this scene where the whole gang was getting ready for a street fight. Baskets of weapons were taken out and all the gang members rushed to get their hands on parangs, metal pipes, machetes, axes, etcs. By the time Jacky and Stephen got to the basket, all that was left was 1 fruit knife and 1 can opener.

I guess to explain the whole thing point blank, I equate one's academic prowess with a weapon grade. So a guy with a rocket launcher means that he is better in studying that one with an egg beater. You need to use a bit of your imagination here. Picture a gladiator trying to fight the lions with say... a soup ladle in his hand.

Got it?

However, the truth to be told, we are a bunch of people who are not afraid to laugh at ourselves which is why we have a lot of funny moments that we remember fondly.

jaschocolate: There are 2 types of blur.
One is blur until all of us get very bad and want to hantam the bugger jialat jialat. e.g. Sabo King in the army.

Other is blur until we don't whether to laugh or cry.
Tony is the 2nd type.
