The Polar Bear Dog

This is Nanook. The name is the same as the Polar Bear* in the zoo. Why named after a polar bear is beyond me. You will have to ask the owners themselves.

I have seen this dog grow up since he was just a puppy. With a blink of an eye, he is an old man liao. 7 years old which is something like 49 in human years.

I visited him last evening and gone are the charge and pounce over you. Instead, it was a elderly gentleman's stroll to meet you. Even the wagging of the tail also not as vigorous anymore.

This is my favourite dog other than the one in Ch1na. Very good temper and I would feel safe letting small kids play with him. I like the relak-jack air about this dog.

I remembered as if it was yesterday when he was just a pup. The funniest incident would be the time where the weather was so hot that he decided to just sit in the shallow Koi pond to cool off. As he was a big dog even as a pup, the depth of the pond was just right as the water level was just below his chin. We were so amused by it initially, until the vet bill arrived. Nanook kena ear infection from the pond water.

Fortunately, the Koi fishes in the pond weren't the $30,000-a-piece type of competition-grade Koi. So no alarm were raised there. Just a lot of dog fur clogging up the filtration system.

Glad to see you again, old friend.

This should be easy to guess the pedigree. Any takers?

* Do you know that there are no polar bears in the South Pole, while there are no penguins in the North Pole?
