New Glasses

It was one of those crazy weekend parties when suddenly an arm swung right into my face accidentally and bending my glasses all out of shape.

Well, it isn't the first time and I have to say that this pair of Dolce & Gabana glasses has been quite resilient, taking years of my abuse, including an episode where my face was smashed into the side window of a car, cutting my eye in the process.

So anyway, coming back to the latest episode, it was just SOP to bend the glasses back to shape. Usually, it would required quite a bit of strength to bend it back but this time round, the metal felt as soft as Play-Doh.

Uh-oh. Metal fatigue.

Before you know it, the arm of the glasses snapped off and my glasses finally gave up its last breath.
So fast forward to the next day where I was at the optician just outside my place. I chose that place simply because by the look of the shop's interior design, it was the more expensive looking as if they know (or pretend to know) what the f*ck they are selling. Do forgive me if I sound like a snob here but surely you won't want to go to a optician who carry brands that they are just as clueless as you right?

And besides, even the salesgirls here in the atas shop knew nothing about the glasses that they sell except telling me stupid tidbits of useless info, like "Oh, a lot of Ta1wanese chose this frame to make their glasses." etc..

Great. Like that is relevant information towards my purchase decision. So imagine this is what you get from an atas shop, try picturing yourself in those kuching kurak optical shops in the back alley.

Sure, they will be cheaper but are you getting a better deal?

So anyway, I was very much on my own as I shooed them away to let me look see look see on my own before I settled on this pair of Nikon Titanium wire frame. I have seen this frame before and if I am not wrong, Silhouette was the first to introduce the 1.8g frame to the masses as far back as 15 years ago.

Well, the main reason that I chose a frameless specs this time was because I wanted to keep my lens. These are good lens which I have gotten them made at Kwong Shin Optical (excellent service!) with everything thrown in except the kitchen sink like multi-coating, scratch resistant, photochromic etc.

Next I ask, how fast can she do it and to my surprise, she started rambling nervously about how they need to drill the holes, sand the sides, polish the lens, fit the frame, blah blah blah...

Without bother with all her bullshit excuses, I pressed her for an answer which she nervously replied, "1 hour."

It was damn funny, considering the fact that when I asked how fast, I was actually asking her how many days.

Am I the best customer evar, or what?

Well, I am happy with my glasses and their service. It was a tad pricey but also perhaps it was due to the fact that I didn't haggle with them like an auntie at the fish market.

Very unglam lor.

Chocolate Gal: Har hairband?? I wear hairband for what??

Dowagr: I usually wear contacts since I have always been very active in sports and I got oily t-zone. But the only reason I have to wear glasses is because furniture factory environment is very jialat especially with saw dust all over the place. You want to wear contacts also cannot. T_T
