The Scent of Jay

{{{{{ Warning : Himbo Post }}}}}

I was chatting with MsVindicta over MSN when we touched on the topic of men's fragrance. Discounting those teeny bopper Gatsby fragrances, my first "real one" was that of Aramis and have since change quite a few until I wanted to settle down with Christian Dior's Fahrenheit as my signature scent in JC. I have been wearing for a while before I realised more and more people around me starting to smell the same.

Perhaps it is a quirk in me that I do not wish to conform the the masses, it was soon abandoned and again on the wilderness trail of trial and error before settling down again with Davidoff's Cool Water when in University.

That was by far my all time favourite until tragedy struck again when more and more people were sporting Cool Water too. I then switch to Alfred Dunhill's Edition but was soon banned by my buddy's girlfriend coz Ed was wearing the same fragrance.

"You cannot wear Edition!" demanded Ed's girlfriend. "You smell the same, wait one night dark dark I mistake you for him, then how?"

"Then I kio tio liao lor!" I replied.

"You go and die lah! Cannot!! *SMACK!*

Damn.

Haiz, ever since I have not used the same fragrance twice.

My personal preference is spicy, flora, fruity and a trace of musk. I avoid citrus coz I would smell like toilet air freshener and I hated woody.

So yesterday's conversation prompted me to rethink about settling down to a signature scent and to be honest, Davidoff Cool Water is right at the top of my list, given then I haven't smelled that scent on anyone for quite a number of years already. Yeah, being in Spitland for the past 8 years helped too.

Here's what I think I should do. Let's do a poll on what I should get after my current bottle of Chanel Allure.
Let me know although, results will have no impact on my final decision but I just thought I seek some opinions for the sake of reference.

Davidoff Cool water will be a good idea for you in spitland.
However, back in SG, there's still a lot of people wearing that.
Hmmmmm.....

Cool water was once worn by the Bengs...wonder if they still do! You can try Polo Sport Ralph Lauren which is very refreshing..or Hugo for Men by Hugo Boss..very manly smell!!

haiyoh, like i said, even if you use the same cologne, at the end of the day (literally), you'll get your very own unique scent cause of all that sweat and BO, and whatever.
so it's still you! :D

msvindicta: While your point is valid in the sense that the smell will be unique as a result of the mixture with the individual's own composition, wouldn't it be better to be unique right from the start, rather than to have to wait until the effect kicks in later?

At present, I tend to scout for the really old fragrances, the super new one that Singapore hasn't even heard of, or really obscure ones like Victoria Secret's Too Sexy (for men).

Chocolate Gal: Then it kinda defeats the purpose of seeking opinion prior to purchase right?

Aloe: I dunno how Cool Water for ladies smell like but I suspect it would probably be rather similar.

小生 i still sticking with CK....(cos no $$ to experiment ard...) So far I've tried Crave, In2U & Eternity (For Men). Eternity (for men) would be more suitable I think??? Tommy Hilfiger 1s are pretty gd (based on my impression of Tommy Girl *cough cough*...), but never use before ba...

Actually what's the diff between flora/fruity & Citrus?? Don't really get it (I only seem to understand the spectrum of scent between 'fresh' and 'sweet') since I always stick to the 'fresh' side of scent...

CowGoesMoo: You don't have to buy a truckload of them to be able to sample many kind. All you have to do is to buy a different bottle each time you finish one.

For myself, I alternate between two bottles, one of which is in my overnight bag while the other is at home for daily use.

Citrus means lemony smell which is probably the "fresh" that you refer to. Sweet probably refers to flora/fruity which are both sweet smelling. As the word suggest, flora smells a little er... well... flora.

KingMeng: I am not sure but I suspect it's because the poll doesn't show up on some browsers. Oh well, screw that since everybody here is recommending a different fragrance here which is kinda where I possibly would be heading.

Cakie: Cool Water is nice indeed but I supposed it's a tad too nice that the whole world is wearing it. :(

Starm|st: You're most welcome!! Happy Birthday again!

THB: Oh, I do not disagree but it's just that I feel citrus especially for night wear is a bit too casual. Call me old skool but these little things are important to me.

Yunz: I never knew Estee Lauder has fragrances for men. The first one that I came across was White Linen. Signature scent of GF 1.0.

And there is Estee Lauder Beautiful whom a very dear friend used to dab a bit of it into my pencil pouch every now and then. I have the nicest smelling pencil pouch in the entire ACJC ok!

thanks for the frower - I donch know how to link it..?!! can you email me the instructions. You know how bad I am at this..!

we're booked on the A380 coming back 20th Aug-5th Sept... donch think you'll be back then right? George and Erin have a date to meet...hahah....
